Orbit press kit

Everything you need to write or talk about Orbit. If something is missing, email me.

Short description

Orbit is a one-tap space game for Android: you orbit a planet, tap and shoot off towards the next one, through 101 real places between Earth and Sagittarius A*.

Long description

In Orbit the ship circles a planet. A tap on the screen lets it go, and it flies off in a straight line along the tangent; if it gets into the next planet’s ring, it locks into that orbit. The orbit shrinks while the player hesitates, so there’s no waiting for the perfect moment.

The route follows real places in the order they come closest to Earth: the Moon, Mars, the moons of Jupiter and Saturn, exoplanets such as TRAPPIST-1 e, Gaia BH1 at jump 98 and Sagittarius A* at jump 100. Every 12 jumps there is a stop with a fight: bases, the warship, the twin cores, the octopus ship, the heavy dreadnought and the carrier at jump 96.

The current version has no ads and no purchases, never connects to the internet and asks for no account. I designed and coded it on my own, in Godot 4.

Features

  • One control: tap to let go of the orbit.
  • 101 real places, from Earth to Sagittarius A*, recorded in an atlas.
  • A stop every 12 jumps, with six different fights and never the same one twice in a row.
  • The current at jump 30: a river of rocks you dodge left and right.
  • 30 ships earned by playing; none changes how you score.
  • 16 daily goals, the same for everyone on any given day.
  • A bestiary of six critters you catch on the fly.
  • Six languages: Spanish, English, French, Catalan, Italian and German.

What is in the game

Numbers taken from the game’s data, plus a few examples. The rest is there to be discovered; if you need something specific for an article, write to me at [email protected].

31 ships, 6 critters, 101 real places and 16 daily goals.

Atlas

The route runs from Earth (jump 0) to Sagittarius A* (jump 100), in the order each place comes closest to Earth. Gaia BH1, the nearest known black hole, is at jump 98. Past jump 100 the known map runs out and you enter the Orbit galaxy: worlds you won’t find in any catalogue.

There are 16 daily challenges: one each day, the same for everyone.

Using this material

You may use the screenshots, the video and the icon to write, record or talk about Orbit without asking. All I ask is that they aren’t altered in a way that misleads people about what the game is like.
